Fish and Wildlife Large Predator Conflict Response
What happens when Fish & Wildlife respond to conflict with a grizzly bear?
This presentation will cover the response procedures, outlining all the steps taken when dealing with bear / human conflict. Paul Frame will discuss the Grizzly Bear Responder Program and Mike Ewald will outline the process for investigating and responding to a bear mauling.
Presenters:
Mike Ewald (left below) started his career with Fish and Wildlife in Canmore in the summer of 1989. He became a Regional Problem Wildlife Specialist in 2013, and then the Provincial Problem Wildlife Specialist in 2021. He has worked primarily in high problem wildlife areas of the province, providing him experience in a vast number of different scenarios dealing with human/wildlife conflict. This includes responding to attacks on humans. Mike has been married for 38 years, has 5 adult children, and 12 grandchildren.
Paul Frame (right above) has been studying and managing large carnivores for 25 years. He as worked with wolves, bears and cougars in various jurisdictions in North America. He as been the Provincial Carnivore Specialist for Alberta since 2014.
